During the french wars a terrible disease came from the east called the black death 1348

Thousands of people died and some villages and manors had hardly anyone left alive 

they were not enough men to plough the land and sow the corn, so the Lords of the Manors let grass grow instead.

They kept many sheep on it because their wool was valuable
