Alive and connected to nature

I could never understand
why people complain
about snow and long nights.
The changing seasons
are wonderful
in the way everything is transformed.
A crisp winter day
is invigorating
and the snow is beautiful
in the way
it settles on twigs and branches.
Hoar frost
on spiders webs
and withered stalks,
patterned ice on puddles
and lochs.
The stars and moon
make the nights
far more interesting
and a walk across moonlit fields
or watching its reflection
shimmer on the water.
Even a dismal grey day
is never wasted
if you just get out
and see the birds
or watch a river glide along.
These all make you feel so alive
and connected to nature.
