I recently re-watched 12 Monkeys, the 1995 film - horribly perfect for lockdown - and apart from the obvious deadly-global-virus parallels, what really struck a chord was the sheer complacency.

In the film, the world was completely unprepared for the emergence of a deadly virus, and the Madeleine Stowe character (early on) dismisses it as batshit (ahem!) unrealistic.

And now look at us. So perhaps, ironically, the lessons from these films is that we're never prepared, we're vastly overconfident of our futures and - no matter how many warnings we get - we never take them seriously enough.
