Covid19 - Flights - Tax - Crisis

Throughout this crisis,

the world has been given a chance to reflect on its actions and the effect they have on each other and the planet, especially in more developed nations. From London to Lahore, there have been significant increases in air quality that of continued could vastly reduce deaths from many respiratory conditions. Issues such as mass consumption and pollution are causes and consequences of tourism’s problems, and could be resolved in the wake of COVID-19.

A tax on multiple flights per year could be implemented in more countries, allowing for a global discouragement of excessive air travel. On top of this, investment in greener travel alternatives for travel such as high speed, cross continental railway lines will decrease pollution with minimal disruption to global tourism.

Personally, I believe that there is another more environmentally conscious and socially just way forward after COVID-19 for tourism as there is for many other industries. However, it will require commitment from corporations and governments alike in order to create a less harsh tourism that both benefits customers and providers, with the effects being reaped for generations.
