There simply has to be a moratorium on all road building in the UK and we must manage the capacity that we have; if this means road pricing/tolls so be it. The majority of the money raised must go towards public transport.
Cities and towns must be reconfigured to make walking cycling and public transport the default forms of mobility.
This massive sense of entitlement - the terrible legacy of Thatcher's ''great car economy' experiment- and expectation that you can drive your car wherever and whenever you want, as cheaply as possible with absolutely no responsibility has to be reversed.
We seem to have forgotten that once upon a time, not very long ago really, there were no cars. People seem to feel that getting in your box and 'going to somewhere' is an obligatory function of human existence. Surely the Corona virus and in my opinion, natures immune response to human activity, has taught us that the is another way??
