Trying to do something
rather than doing nothing
is extremely important for resilience.
This is a real opportunity,
and we need to recognise it as such.
And don’t forget that coronavirus
isn’t the only thing that’s contagious:
happiness is contagious too,
as well as fear.
If you go outside,
smile at people.
Be really friendly.
It can and will make a huge difference.
Don’t get sucked into
a continual stream of news:
decide at what points in the day
you’re going to update yourself.
Think about who you need to in touch with,
who you need to support –
both in your immediate family,
and the community around you.
Powerlessness doesn’t make people happy,
but taking control
–
even in chaotic circumstances like a pandemic
–
goes a long way to help us cope.
