Making allotments more wildlife-friendly, and were just discussing yesterday a strip of public path edging under the railings, which is difficult to keep neat and also connects the allotments to a woodland area nearby.

That made me wonder whether the beneficial effect of letting or helping a patch to do its own thing needs to be of a width to allow sufficient variety, or whether the strip under the railings can become a plant and wildlife route to the small wild patches and pond areas we have in our plots?
