Napster, Limewire, Morpheus etc etc etc allowed us all to download music for free and I agree it was wrong but it didn't take long for a lot of people to get really fed up with the quality of the MP3s they were downloading.
I think it's Youtube, spotify and all the other streaming platforms that have troubled it for artists
and they are still doing it.
The upside, if it can be called such a thing,
is that artists have to perform live and that must sort the wheat from the chaff.
If someone could come up with a viable copy protection mechanism we could go back to buying records again
and the all would be well except that then thhe cassette would come back
