Rural radio in Niagara Falls
with an expanding musical pallette,
There was a tiny station out of Buffalo called The Lake.
They were way up in the nosebleed section
of the dial--107.7--
and the signal was a lot weaker
than the other Buffalo stations.
Sometimes it came in, sometimes it didn't.
But they played the most diverse
and amazing range of music I'd ever experienced:
old, grizzled bluesmen,
deep cuts from rock groups,
alternative artists that never
get a look-in on most stations.
there even was Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
thanks to them,
They played Red Right Hand,
and the song still makes a view of a dark night,
the empty streets,
the moon overhead,
the rumbling engine of a half-dead 78 Grand Marquis beneath Cave's dirgy drawl.
