However only about 0.5% percent of Swiss can speak Romansh.

The Swiss believe that their Romansh came from the Romans when they conquered Rhaetia, (Graubünden) in 15BC .
Romansh would be a mixture of Vulgar Latin and Rhaetian, which was spoken by the natives.
