The ancient Finns had a hundred names for Bear.

The real name for Bear, Karhu, was not used.

Because people were afraid that using the word may bring Bear to your doorstep or make it angry.

Some of these names are still used.

These include Nalle, Kontio, Otso, Tapio, Lalli, Otava,

Mesikämmen (nectar palm),

Metsän kuningas (king of the forest)

Omenainen (apple-y). :)
