This is what Luis  the CEO of Duolingo has Just said

"Thank you very much for taking the time to write this, and thank you for using a polite tone :) The decision to remove Immersion was not an easy one, but unfortunately we just don't have the resources to continue maintaining a system used by 0.05% of our users.

Our goal is not to have a site that's geared to pre-teens (as we've been accused elsewhere after removing Immersion). In fact, from our own stats, only a small minority of our users are younger than 18. Our goal is to help as many people as possible learn a language, and the decisions we make are all geared towards that.

We have 45 engineers, who are developing and maintaining features that serve, literally, tens of millions of active users. Every day, my job is to prioritize what they work on, and unfortunately there is no way to only make decisions that everybody will agree with. If you see the responses to our Facebook posts, or even posts on this forum or on Reddit, you'll see that people want thousands of different things. Every time we announce a new language, there is a barrage of posts, some even insulting us, about us not yet having Japanese or Chinese. When we add a feature to our iOS app, we get complaints about why it's not on Android, and vice versa.

I hate that we can't support Immersion anymore, as it was a feature that I personally conceived of, but I have to do what I think is best for the project.

Gena a Duoling user replied to him with this statement.

"Thank you for taking the time to read this post and to reply to it. I do understand your difficulty in supporting everything that is requested but I do think that in the long term your goal of bringing language learning to the majority of people in the world is weakened by the removal of immersion. We may have been a small proportion of users but we did try hard to help others.

It is not picque which makes me predict the loss of knowledge and experience following the decision but the fact that there has to be a reason for people to stay and for many advanced users that reason is now severely weakened. I hope for the sake of inexperienced users that I may be proved wrong but I think that may be a vain hope.

As far as the age of your users is concerned, there is no real way that your statistics can tell you anything other than their declared age, which is not the same thing at all. My own experience is that there are many pre-teens using your site but again, I cannot prove this scientifically, I can only go by my own, admittedly limited knowledge.

I do have one other request, if immersion really is beyond saving, could you please make our translated work available for reference purposes. We have put a lot of time and effort in to these and they include a huge body of detailed language explanations by native speakers. I have no idea if this is feasible or not but you would have a lot of very grateful people if it is.

Thank you again for your reply, it is genuinely appreciated."
