Plastic is a problem

Plastic is part of a problem.

But the main problem is excess packaging whether plastic or not.

Absolutely no excuse for wrapping a single vegetable or fruit in plastic, for example.

No reason why breakfast cereal should come in a plastic bag inside a cardboard box.

No reason to put all medicines taken as pills in a combination plastic/foil dispenser, inside a box, complete with paper list of possible side effects.

The combination dispenser is non recyclable.

Many patients take the same prescription pills for years; do they really need a warning leaflet in every box?

Just ask if one is needed; if if isn't, leave it out.

Let people choose to have their pills dispensed in a recyclable bottle.

Make it a law that all supermarkets must recycle or reuse packaging, or stop using it altogether, and let people leave excess packaging at the till.

Publish the results- then we'd know which companies use the most excess packaging.

Shame people into doing more.

Sorry to bang on but also I suppose ..loads of packaging suits the supermarkets? No serving..no weighing out ..less staff...much easier transportation. Maybe also packaging conceals a lot?Having shut down all our local proper shops and destroyed our trad food culture the supers are now Hell bent on destroying the planet!!!

Much food used to be sold virtually unwrapped..just a paper bag. Then there were all those “alarms” regarding glass in baby food etc...and packaging increased. ( Very much like in Victorian times when “adulteration” of bread etc was claimed in Victorian times and then packaging became the norm. <br /> Not all that long ago we had “bin shops” that sold flour, cereal etc loose ( you filled a bag and got it weighed). Is packaging all about branding? Also they say that the packaging industry itself is a HUGE big deal. Whatever..it should just STOP!
