Starlings in the Summer
A couple of starlings with their maturing brood are perched on the roof ridge.
The young birds,fully-fledged, keep their brown plumage until the autumn, when they gradually become spotted like their parents.
Starlings are sociable birds, good mimics and extremely talkative.
When several thousand flock together they can make a great din.
Soon this family will be joining up with others of their kind.
A family of jack-daws is flying over, and a young pied-wagtail has just caught a large fly.
